Man loses arm after being struck by NJ Transit train
HACKENSACK, N.J. -- Officials say a man attempting to take his own life lost his arm when he was struck by a NJ Transit train at a station in Bergen County.
Police Director Michael Mordaga says officers tracked the man, who wasn't identified, Tuesday night by following a trail of blood from Hackensack's Anderson Street Station to a street about four blocks away.
Mordaga says the man told officers he was trying to kill himself.
A NJ Transit spokeswoman says the collision took place around 10:15 p.m. and none of the 200 passengers aboard the commuter train were injured.
The man was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center, where his severed arm was also taken for evaluation.
There was no word on the man's condition or the possibility of reattaching the limb.
