Man charged in wife's 1993 murder after remains unearthed

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A man suspected of killing his wife 22 years ago is under arrest after the skeletal remains of his spouse were unearthed last year at their former Jacksonville home.

Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Director Mike Bruno said 49-year-old Michael Haim was arrested in North Carolina Monday after DNA testing confirmed the identity of the remains as those of Bonnie Haim. Officials were returning Michael Haim to Florida to face a murder charge.

The remains were discovered by workers taking out a pool.

Bonnie Haim disappeared on Jan. 7, 1993. Her purse was found in a trash bin, and her car was abandoned near the Jacksonville International Airport.

Bruno says Michael Haim told police the two had argued the night she vanished, and she had left their home.

The couple's son, who was 3 at the time, won a 2005 wrongful death suit against his father for $26.3 million.
