Murder charges in death of NBA player's transgender sibling

BALTIMORE -- Baltimore police say a man has been charged with killing Mia Henderson, who was stabbed to death in July 2014.

Interim Police Commissioner Kevin Davis said police were able to identify Shawn Oliver as the murder suspect from DNA extracted from under Henderson's fingernails.

"Mia fought back, and thank God she fought back," Davis said Thursday.

Davis said Oliver was already behind bars when he was charged with killing Henderson, a transgender woman whose legal name was Kevin Long.

The case is still under investigation to see if hate crime charges are warranted.

Henderson's body was found five weeks after another transgender woman, 40-year-old Kandy Hall, was found dead. Her death was ruled a homicide.

Henderson is the sibling of Reggie Bullock, who at the time of the murder tweeted, "All I can say is my brother showed me how to live your own life. Love you so much man. Gone but not forgotten."

Bullock who now plays for the Detroit Pistons posted a tweet Thursday saying, "Just wanted to take the time to thank @BaltimorePolice for aggressively pursuing the murderer of my brother. My family and I are now able to rest our hearts knowing that this person is OFF THE STREETS.#BaltimorePD #RIPKEVIN."
