(CBS) NEW ORLEANS - A 1-year-old girl was fatally shot while on a walk in New Orleans with her babysitter Thursday night and now a $5,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and indictment of suspects wanted in the crime, CBS affiliate WWLTV reports.

According to the station, the child's babysitter, an 18-year-old woman, was also shot in the incident. She reportedly suffered a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the back. The child who was killed was identified as Londyn Samuels.

New Orleans Police Dept. Superintendent Ronal Serpas said authorities are searching for two men in connection with the shooting which took place around 8:30 p.m. Thursday. They have not named a suspect. Serpas said the individuals fled the scene on foot.

Police say it is unclear whether the babysitter and the 1-year-old were the intended target, the station reports.

"This is the time. This is when the people of New Orleans need to rally up, stand up and say, this is what happened. Give us the information. Let us go make these people accountable for what they did," Serpas said.

Witnesses say the babysitter managed to get into a neighbor's home and call for help, the station reports.

According to the station, the New Orleans Police Dept. SWAT team is in the process of interviewing individuals who may have information related to the crime. The investigation is ongoing.
