Lindsay Lohan arrested, accused of punching woman

Lindsay Lohan was arrested early Thursday morning in New York after an altercation with a woman at a Chelsea nightclub. She was charged with assaulting the woman at Club Avenue, police say.

Law enforcement sources told WCBS-TV in New York that the troubled actress punched the unidentified woman in the face. It started around 4 a.m. ET, according to police insiders, who say after Lohan and the woman bumped into each other, words were exchanged and a physical altercation followed.

Insiders told TMZ that Lohan and the woman were sitting at separate booths when the actress said something like, "Give me my space." Time passed, according to the site, and Lohan allegedly got up and struck the woman in the face.

With a jacket covering her head, Lindsay Lohan is escorted from the 10th Precinct police station, Nov. 29, 2012, in New York. AP

Lohan, 26, left the police precinct nearly four hours later with a black jacket covering her head. TMZ has photos of Lohan with police Thursday here.

Lohan is currently on informal probation for removing a necklace from a jewelry store without permission in 2011.

Lohan's new Lifetime movie, "Liz & Dick," premiered on Sunday.
