CBS affiliate KOIN reports that his biological mother, Desiree Young, hosted a gathering with cake and ice cream Thursday night at a church in Medford. Kaine Horman, his father, is hosting a party Sunday at a local restaurant.

The boy's birthday was Thursday.

Kaine Horman, told The Oregonian he's doing something Kyron loves, regardless of where his son is.

Young, told KOIN that this week marked a difficult time for her, and she even contemplated whether or not a birthday party was the right thing to do.

"I didn't want him to see that we didn't think about his birthday or it went by and it just didn't happen," explained Young to KOIN. "I want him to see that we still love him and care about him - we still want him home - and this is how I decided to do that."

Festivities at the Medford party included a slide show of pictures accompanied by laughter from the crowd and 300 chocolate cupcakes - Kyron's favorite.

Kyron disappeared after a science fair at his Portland school on June 4.

Investigators have focused on Kyron's stepmother, Terri Moulton Horman, but have not arrested her or called her a suspect in the disappearance. She and the boy's father have since divorced.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact the Tip Line at 503-261-2847.
