(CBS/AP) KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Police say a Kansas City mother pulled her child's kindergarten teacher out of her chair by the hair, repeatedly punched her in the face and slammed her head against a file cabinet.

The mother, who has not been identified, faces an assault citation in the alleged attack.

The Kansas City Star reports that the altercation happened Thursday night at Truman Elementary School in the Hickman Mills School District.

Police reports say the mother was upset because her 6-year-old son had come home that day with a scratch on his neck. The boy reportedly said the teacher gave him the scratch when she disciplined him.

But a district official says that when the boy's father took the child to school Friday, he told administrators and police that the teacher hadn't hurt him.
