Baby reported abducted from car parked in lot

LOVELAND, Ohio -- Police outside Cincinnati are searching for a four-month-old girl after her father told authorities she was abducted from his car in a parking lot.

The infant's father said she was taken from his car parked in front of a dollar store in Loveland Sunday night, along with her car seat, according to Loveland Police. Officials have issued a statewide endangered child alert for the infant, Kaylynn Crawford.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol didn't issue an Amber Alert because the case didn't meet the requirements, Loveland Police Chief Dennis Sean Rahe told reporters Monday. No one interviewed so far saw the abduction take place, reports CBS affiliate WKRC. State agencies typically require a suspect description or suspect vehicle in order to issue an Amber Alert.

Investigators are interviewing bystanders and the girl's parents, the station reports.

A cell phone ping led authorities to search a nature preserve about six miles away from the parking lot where the girl vanished, the station reports. But their efforts there ended with no leads early Monday. Police have not offered more information on who the cell phone belongs to.

The Ohio Attorney General Office's Bureau of Criminal Investigation is leading the criminal probe, Rahe said at a brief news conference Monday afternoon.

"Everyone's priority right now is to find Kaylynn and return her to her family," Rahe said.
