Johnny Depp gushes over Amber Heard, calls her "wonderful"

Johnny Depp is engaged -- and not only is he wearing his "chick's ring" but he also talked openly about his new fiancee during an interview that aired Friday on NBC's "Today" show.

While sitting down with co-host Savannah Guthrie, Depp -- the forever heartthrob -- gushed over actress Amber Heard, saying, "She's a wonderful girl. She's sharp as a tack. A southern belle and sweet as can be, and very good for me."

He also showed off his new diamond ring, describing it as "a chick's ring."

Heard, 27, and Depp, 50, starred together in 2011's "The Rum Diary." Shortly afterwards, dating rumors started to surface, and in January there were reports of an engagement.

Depp has two children from his longtime relationship with French singer/actress Vanessa Paradis -- son Jack and daughter Lily-Rose. The couple parted ways in 2012 after 14 years together. He has called the split "unpleasant" and "hard on every side."

Depp is currently promoting his new sci-fi movie "Transcendence."
