NEW YORK (CBS/AP) After gaining 3.7 million followers, John Mayer is now over Twitter.

A rep for the Grammy-winning singer says he deleted his Twitter account with his Battle Studies Tour "now at a close and a return to the studio planned."

Mayer, 32, actively participated on the micro-blogging site and once used his account to invite 500 University of South Carolina fans to see a free show.

Known for his loose tongue, Mayer also used Twitter as a platform to defend his reputation and even apologized for his controversial Playboy interview, in which he used the "N-Word" and openly discussed his relationship with Jessica Simpson and Jennifer Aniston.

Luckily for fans, Mayer isn't over social media altogether. Along with his official blog, the "Your Body is a Wonderland" singer plans to communicate to his fans through Tumblr, another micro-blogging site.

"I think I made the right choice," he wrote last week. "I now have an even larger Tumblr addiction but it's sort of like a book addiction, or a gambling addiction where you always walk away with the casino's money."
