John Mayer deletes tweet calling Taylor Swift’s birthday lame

Bad blood, indeed.

Taylor Swift celebrated her 27th birthday on Tuesday, but it seems not everyone was treating it like a joyous occasion.

While fans and famous friends were showering Swift with birthday well-wishes, one of her song-inspiring ex-boyfriends, John Mayer, appeared to be more interested in working in a not-so-subtle dig at the “Blank Space” singer.

“Tuesday, December 13 may be the lamest day of the year, conceptually,” Mayer tweeted Tuesday night. He quickly deleted it when people started making the connection.

He also followed it up with a tweet challenging those suggesting he was throwing shade at Swift, writing, “People I am 39. I am deleting those tweets. Come right at me for doing so. Absolutely no shade.”

But then he deleted that tweet as well. He seemed to have changed his mind about that move by Wednesday morning, though, as he tweeted a screenshot of it.

Mayer and Swift dated briefly between November 2009 and February 2010, and their breakup is believed to have inspired Swift’s song “Dear John.”
