"Jem and the Holograms" movie finds its stars

"Nashville" actress Aubrey Peeples has landed the title role in a live-action film version of "Jem and the Holograms."

The casting news was made official Thursday with a post on the film's Tumblr.

Peeples, who portrays Layla Grant on the ABC country music drama, will play Jerrica Benton, aka Jem. The Holograms have also been cast: Stefanie Scott ("A.N.T. Farm") will play Jem's sister Kimber, Aurora Perrineau ("Pretty Little Liars") will play Shana and Hayley Kiyoko ("The Fosters") will play Aja.

The "Jem and the Holograms" cartoon and toy line were both popular in the 1980s. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film will see Jerrica Benton as an orphaned teenage girl who becomes an online recording sensation. She and her bandmates embark on an adventure that takes them across Los Angeles in hopes of unlocking a final message from her father.

Production on the film is already under way, and Peeples has taken to Instagram to show of photos of her with her co-stars.

"We love each other (cue "awwww")," she captioned one group photo.
