James Bond movie gets Vatican's blessing

The new James Bond movie "Skyfall" has been breaking box office records overseas, and now it even has the blessing of the Vatican.

Reuters is reporting that l'Osservatore Romano gave "Skyfall" a rave review, calling it one of the best of the 23 James Bond films made over the past 50 years. The review was one of five stories about the movie that appeared in a recent issue of the newspaper that serves the Vatican.

The movie has proved to be a box-office powerhouse overseas, where, according to The Hollywood Reporter, it has grossed $96.5 million in less than a week.

In the U.K., "Skyfall" set a record for a Monday box office with $6.8 million, beating the last "Harry Potter" movie which took in $5 million one Monday last year. Last weekend, "Skyfall" grossed $32.4 million, the biggest U.K. opening for the franchise and the country's second-biggest ever.

It also has taken in $3.6 million in Brazil, $12.8 million in France, $9.2 million in Russia and $6.5 million in South Korea.

The movie, starring Daniel Craig, Judi Dench and Javier Bardem, opens in the U.S. on Nov. 8.
