Is Brett Favre Really Retiring This Time?

We've seen this before: Brett Favre gets choked up as he talks about his retirement, March 6, 2008 during a news conference at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wis. AP

Brett Favre holds every major NFL career passing record.

He also leads the league in number of retirement announcements.

The future Hall of Fame quarterback has added to this tally by reportedly telling the Vikings he is not returning next season.

Is he for real this time?

Favre, now 40, is famous for waffling. His change of heart on retirement led to an ugly parting with the Packers that got him traded from Green Bay to the Jets in 2008. After a so-so season in New York, he announced his retirement in early 2009 for the second time, then reconsidered and signed with the Vikings.

Right after the Vikings lost to New Orleans in the NFC championship in January, even Favre knew his critics would be skeptical of any impending retirement announcement.

"I know people are rolling their eyes or will roll their eyes," Favre said at the time. "In a situation like this I really don't want to make a decision right now."

Seven months later, he has apparently made the decision.

For now.
