IPhone-starved Fargo Welcomes New Gadget

FARGO, N.D. (AP) - Thousands of new members are joining the iPhone club.

Cell-phone users in areas of the Dakotas, Montana, Nebraska and Wyoming have not been able to use the Apple device because of AT&T's spotty coverage in that part of the country. The iPhone lovers can now get it through the nation's largest wireless carrier, Verizon Wireless.

Katie Elenberger of Moorhead, Minn., ordered the phone last week when it was made available to Verizon customers. The expectant mother received it on her first day of maternity leave and says it was the highlight of her day.

Verizon would not release sales figures, but says the company set a record on the day it began accepting online orders for the iPhone. The company is making the phone available to the general public Thursday.
