Industry Moves: Facebook Hires Google AdWords Exec

Another day, another executive defection from Google (NSDQ: GOOG). Grady Burnett, who had led the company's AdWords business, is leaving to head up online sales at Facebook, a Facebook spokesman confirms. In that role, he'll be responsible in part for the online Facebook tool people use to create and run their own ad campaigns on the social network. He will report directly to COO Cheryl Sandberg. The news was first reported by Crain's Detroit Business.

Burnettwho was based in Ann Arbor, Mich. where Google's AdWords business is headquarteredis the latest advertising executive to leave Google. Earlier this week, Google confirmed that North American director of agency relations Erin Clift was leaving to join AOL (NYSE: TWX). Facebook, meanwhile, has been beefing up its advertising force. In mid-April, the company hired Yahoo (NSDQ: YHOO) VP of sales operations Dan Foehner.
