Home invasion suspect linked to Mich. mom's murder?

WALKER, Mich. - A man accused of robbing and sexually assaulting an elderly woman in a home invasion is now a suspect in the murder of a Michigan mother found dead earlier this year, police say, according to mlive.com.

The body of Yolanda Reyes, 40, was found by a construction crew in Walker in May, nearly a month after she disappeared. No arrests have been made in the case.

Shawn Jarrett, 50, was only named a suspect by police recently following his arrest Friday for allegedly sexually assaulting an elderly woman. He is expected to be arraigned Monday on charges of first-degree home invasion and first-degree criminal sexual conduct stemming from the alleged assault, which took place in Grandville.

Authorities say they determined Jarrett and Reyes worked together at Neal Mast & Son Greenhouses, where Reyes was last seen prior to her disappearance.

Deputy Walker Police Chief Greg Long said Monday, according to mlive.com, that detectives learned of Jarrett's extensive criminal history and now consider him a suspect in the death of Reyes.

CBS affiliate WWMT reports Jarrett previously served a 30-year prison sentence in Pennsylvania on a murder charge. He was released in December of 2012.

Jarrett is being held at the Kent County Jail. He has not officially been charged in the death of Reyes. Police say they are awaiting a forensic report.
