Holder Worried About Lawmakers' Gitmo Objections

Attorney General Eric Holder says he is worried lawmakers' opposition to bringing Guantanamo Bay detainees to U.S. prisons could hurt the effort to close the detention center.

Holder says the Obama administration will have a difficult time meeting its own January 2010 deadline for closing the detention center.

He said he has more work to do to convince lawmakers that such suspects can be safely held in prison in the U.S.

Last week, the House passed a nonbinding recommendation against bringing Guantanamo detainees to this country, even to face trial or be held in a maximum-security lockup.

The attorney general says there are plenty of very dangerous criminals, including terrorists, who are already safely held in U.S. prisons.
