Hillary Clinton campaigns with Al Gore in Florida
Former Vice President Al Gore will hit the campaign trail Tuesday for Hillary Clinton, appearing with the Democratic presidential nominee at an event in Miami focused on combatting climate change, according to a Clinton campaign official.
The aide said Gore and Clinton will “lay out what’s at stake in this election by highlighting the urgent threat of climate change” which the campaign says affects Americans’ health, security and the economy.
At the Florida event, just ahead of the battleground state’s voter registration deadline, Clinton is expected to discuss rising sea levels in Miami as well as the historic drought in the West.
A federal court on Monday extended Florida’s voter registration deadline from Tuesday to 5 p.m. ET Wednesday as a result of Hurricane Matthew hitting the east coast late last week.
This marks the first time Gore will be publicly campaigning for Clinton during this cycle. The New York Times reported last month that her campaign had been in touch with the former vice president about getting him to rally support for her. It said that Gore, who served in the White House with President Bill Clinton from 1993 to 2001, would get involved to emphasize Clinton is key to progress on fighting climate change.
Gore said in July that he would be voting for Hillary Clinton for president. He lost the Electoral College to President George W. Bush in the 2000 presidential election.
