Gold iPhone 5S sells on eBay for more than $10,000

Someone just couldn't wait to get their hands on a new gold iPhone 5S. An anonymous bidder paid $10,100 to buy one of the coveted new devices on eBay.

The gold iPhones, which went on sale Friday, quickly sold out in stores and online, and are back-ordered until October.

Rather than wait a few weeks, some iPhone fanatics with deep pockets have been turning to the resale market on eBay, where they can find a selection of phones listed for several hundred dollars more than their standard retail price.

The biggest sale price so far was for a model Apple normally sells for $649.

CNET tracked the five-figure transaction. The seller, "Papakar" in Connecticut, listed the unlocked 16GB gold iPhone 5S on Sunday. It quickly racked up more than 50 bids, until the winning bidder topped them all, just before the deadline Monday, with an offer of $10,100.
