Get Plain English Explanation of Legal Issues

If you work for Giant Omni Corporation, you probably have access to a legal department which can field questions about all sorts of routine business law issues. If you work at a small company -- or you're on your own -- then your options might be more limited.

In the past, I've tried to look out for you self-serve legal types. I gave you 5 resources for free or cheap legal advice and recommended Rocket Lawyer for some free legal services. Today, I've got a handy plain-English legal dictionary.

WEX is a somewhat authoritative legal dictionary written in plain English, designed for consumption by normal human beings. I say "somewhat authoritative" because, while it's a community-maintained wiki, it lives at Cornell University Law School's Web site.

The database is staggering in scope; there are well over 4000 entries, ranging across every topic I could think of. Clearly, WEX isn't going to replace a lawyer, but it can certainly help you understand the problem and give you some idea of what to do next. [via Lifehacker]
