CHICAGO - Joseph Andrew Felton Jr., a man suspected of murder in Georgia, was arrested after an eight-hour standoff near Chicago on Sunday, reports CBS Chicago.

Felton, 43, is accused of murdering his wife in Georgia on Saturday, according to authorities. He was taken into custody in Chicago around 9:30 p.m. Sunday after crashing his vehicle while fleeing police.

Police say the man is suspected of killing Sheray Latriest Felton during a domestic dispute. Officers in Harvey, Ill. located the man's vehicle after receiving a tip on Sunday from Henry County, Ga. police about a car with Illinois plates that was wanted in connection with the murder, according to CBS Chicago.

Felton fled, taking authorities on a chase along Interstate 57 and the Dan Ryan Expressway before he crashed around 1 p.m., reports the station.

"This is a wanted homicide offender who was considered armed and dangerous by law enforcement," said Chicago Police Patrol Bureau Chief Wayne Gulliford. "He intentionally rammed several cars, including a police car; told negotiators that he was heavily armed; displayed erratic and unstable behavior during negotiations with SWAT personnel."

Gulliford said Felton rammed several vehicles before crashing.

Felton's sister, who lives in Chicago, came to the scene and tried to talk with him, according to CBS Chicago. "He's not making sense," she said. "He can't really talk in complete sentences. He's just yelling and screaming."

The suspect vowed not to be taken alive, telling police he was heavily armed. Authorities tried to coax him out of his vehicle for over eight hours, using loudspeakers to communicate.

"The ultimate goal is to resolve this safely... without anybody getting injured," Gulliford said. "So during negotiations, the subject did threaten to harm himself and the police if they approached."

The standoff finally came to an end around 9:30 p.m. Sunday night. Felton, who was armed with several knives, was arrested and taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital to be treated for lacerations, reports CBS Chicago.
