(CBS) PORTLAND, Ore.- Oregon doctor Frederick Field, who was accused of sexually abusing patients while they were under anesthesia, was sentenced to 23 years in prison on Tuesday, reports CBS affiliate KOIN.

Dr. Frederick George Field pleaded guilty to 11 counts of sexual abuse and one count of rape. Field had initially pleaded not guilty to allegations he sexually abused seven women, including six patients and one hospital employee. At the time, his medical license was suspended by the Oregon Medical Board.

In August of 2011, a 66-year-old woman who underwent surgery conducted by Field in February 2011 filed suit against Mid-Columbia Medical center.

According to the Portland law firm that represented the woman, "As soon as she was able to speak, she told her surgeon that Dr. Field had forced her to touch him sexually during the surgery. Dr. Field denied the allegations, and said that [she] had been hallucinating under the effect of the anesthetic."

A Portland attorney with that firm told KOIN that on Tuesday, Field pleaded guilty. He was sentenced to 23 years in prison.
