Florida teen arrested after murder-for-hire contract found

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - A 14-year-old Florida boy has been arrested after police say a murder-for-hire contract to kill the boy's family was found in his room.

Port St. Lucie police say the note, which was found Saturday by the teen's father, was an agreement between the teen and a friend that the friend would kill the boy's father, stepmother and stepbrother for $1,200.

The teen allegedly told police he was plotting for his family members to be killed in a burglary-gone-bad scenario, reports CBS affiliate WPEC. The teen reportedly planned to be in his room during the killing and after it, he intended to run to a neighbor's house to call 911.

The friend told police he thought the contract, which he signed two weeks ago, was a joke and that he never intended to carry out the teen's plan.

The teen was arrested and charged with solicitation to commit first-degree murder. According WPEC, the friend is not facing charges and is cooperating with the investigation.

Prior to the teen's arrest, the teen's father told authorities he became concerned his son would harm him and his other family members, so they put locks on their bedroom doors, reports WPEC.

According to the station, authorities say the teen was suspended from school last April for bringing a knife to school.
