Fla. Mayor's Dad Jailed After Gun Confrontation
Police say a Florida mayoral candidate upset because his politician daughter endorsed someone else was arrested after confronting her with a gun.
Police records show 84-year-old Edward Portner was arrested Tuesday night after showing up at Broward County Mayor Stacy Ritter's house with a gun and struggling with her briefly. Ritter ran to a neighbor's house and later told officers she feared for her life.
Portner is running for mayor of Tamarac and has been publicly upset that his daughter endorsed someone else. Portner was a Tamarac city commissioner from 1999 to last year.
It wasn't immediately clear if Portner had hired an attorney. His wife told the South Florida Sun-Sentinel that her husband "lost it" before going over to Ritter's house.
