Firefighters rescue puppy from 75-foot well in Georgia
CANTON, Ga. -- Firefighters were able to rescue a puppy from a deep well north of Atlanta by lowering a firefighter into the hole to retrieve the dog.
CBS affiliate WGCL in Atlanta reports that the yellow Labrador Retriever was rescued Sunday morning, after it fell into the 75-foot well in Cherokee County.
Cherokee County fire spokesman Tim Cavender said the dog was given oxygen and "appeared to be OK."
Jose Santillan, who lives in a nearby home, said that he heard a dog continuously barking and went outside to check out what was happening.
"A black Labrador was barking and I went outside to find that the yellow Lab had fallen into the well," Santillan said.
Authorities say firefighters built a tripod over the hole and then lowered firefighter Brendan O'Brien into it. He was raised back up to the surface -- with the puppy in hand -- within a few minutes.
