Female gym teacher charged with sexually abusing second boy

NEW YORK - A female high school teacher charged Tuesday with raping a male student was rearrested Wednesday and charged with sexually abusing a second 16-year-old boy from the same Queens school, reports CBS New York.

Joy Morsi, 39, allegedly sexually abused a male student on Saturday at Grover Cleveland High School in the borough of Queens, where she teaches physical education, according to the station. She was charged Wednesday with two counts of committing a third-degree criminal sexual act and one count of endangering the welfare of a child.

The new charges come one day after Morsi was arraigned on 20 counts of rape, 20 counts of criminal sexual conduct and endangering the welfare of a child in Queens Criminal Court in relation to a separate case involving a different 16-year-old male student. The identities of the two students have not been released.

In the initial case, prosecutors said Morsi, who is married, was involved in "multiple incidents" with the student over a period of seven weeks last year. CBS New York reports the alleged misconduct took place at various locations at the high school.

According to the station, Morsi allegedly sent raunchy photos to the student, and asked in emails if he was a virgin.

In the second case, Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said Wednesday that Morsi "twice engaged in a criminal sexual act with a 16-year-old male student" inside the school on Saturday.

"Schools should be safe havens for kids," Brown said. "Instead, the defendant stands accused now of having used her position as a teacher to sexually prey upon two of her students."

New York's age of consent is 17.

Morsi was ordered held on $25,000 bail and must be back in court on June 23, CBS New York reports. The judge ordered the teacher - who has been suspended without pay - to stay away from both of the teenagers.

The station reports Morsi has been a physical education teacher at Grover Cleveland High School since 1999.
