Fallon, Kimmel, Ferguson congratulate Stephen Colbert on "Late Show" gig

Stephen Colbert won't start his tenure as host of the "Late Show" until next year, but he's already getting a warm welcome from fellow late-night hosts.

"The Tonight Show" host Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel of "Jimmy Kimmel Live," Seth Meyers of "Late Night" and Craig Ferguson of "The Late Late Show" all took to Twitter following Thursday's announcement that "The Colbert Report" host will succeed David Letterman following his retirement next year.

Letterman himself also released a statement congratulating his successor: "Stephen has always been a real friend to me. I'm very excited for him, and I'm flattered that CBS chose him. I also happen to know they wanted another guy with glasses."

Others in Hollywood also shared reactions to Thursday's Colbert-Letterman news, among them Larry King, Mindy Kaling, Ryan Seacrest and "Two and a Half Men" star Jon Cryer.
