Facebook threat to protesters gets high school counselor investigated

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. - A Pennsylvania high school guidance counselor is being investigated after threats against "die-in" protesters at Sunday's Philadelphia Eagles game allegedly went out on her Facebook account.

The post, which was said to have gone out on Central Bucks West High School guidance counselor Marykate Blankenburg's page and later went viral, read "If my child cannot get to the Eagles game due to protesters, I will personally SHOOT every one of them. You've been warned idiots!!"

Protesters took to the streets outside of Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia after the Eagles game against Seattle to protest grand jury decisions against indicting two white police officers who killed two unarmed black men.

The Upper Gwynedd, Pa., woman was suspended with pay, CBS Philadelphia reported. Law enforcement authorities were notified and are conducting its own probe of the incident.

"I learned Sunday afternoon of a media posting of a threatening violent message allegedly written under the name of Marykate Blankenburg," said Central Bucks schools superintendent David Weitzel in a statement. "We immediately began an investigation including verification of the source of the post and we will take appropriate action once we learn of all the facts."

The Facebook profile purporting to be under Blankenburg's name has been deleted. The post was made public by a Twitter activist calling himself FanSince09.

Students at the school have expressed frustration over this, the latest publicized controversy to hit since its football team cancelled its season in October over hazing allegations. At least one student spoke in Blankenburg's defense.

"To see that she said something like that is really surprising," said junior Olivia Hammond. "She's done so much for this school and she helps me so much. She helps everyone with colleges and college essays and stuff."

Attempts by CBS Philadelphia to reach Blankenburg were unsucessful.
