The newspaper, citing unidentified industry sources, reported Friday that Everett is convinced he can no longer play for manager Jimy Williams. It said Everett's agent, Larry Reynolds, has privately told associates of Everett's intentions. Reynolds had no comment when asked about Everett's plans.
Everett had a good year on the field, hitting 34 home runs with 108 RBIs and 11 stolen bases even though he missed 25 games.
But his temper drew attention in several well-publicized instances.
Everett yelled at reporters, had confrontations with Williams and teammate Darren Lewis, and was suspended for 10 games for an outburst July 15 against an umpire. Everett bumped Ronald Kulpa once on the chest before "beaking" him with the brim of his cap.
Kevin Shea, a Red Sox spokesman, didn't immediately return a message seeking comment.
