Edwards: "What Happens in Vegas, Stays in Vegas"

(CBS)
From CBS News' Aaron Lewis:

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- After a veritable trouncing in Nevada today, John Edwards told reporters following a rally in South Carolina that he'd like to move on.

"This is one of those times where I hope the old saying 'what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas' turns out to be true," he said with a laugh. "We'll find out."

Edwards had a very poor showing in the Silver State, winning around only 4 percent of caucus-goers. He urged reporters, however, not to read too much into the results.

"I think the other candidates spent enormous amounts of money and we didn't," said Edwards. "It was a caucus process. They were there for a long time organizing."

"We've now had three states vote out of 50," he continued. "We've got 47 states to go."

When one reporter reminded Edwards that he spent more time in Nevada than any other candidate and asked how things could have still gone so wrong, Edwards was defiant.

"I've answered that question," he said before moving on to take a question about his South Carolina prospects.
