"Divorce Emergency": Pa. woman calls 911 asking for help removing hubby

AP / CBS

(CBS/AP) GIRARD, Pa. - Dispatcher: 911, what is your emergency?

Caller: I need a divorce, can you make my husband leave?

According to police, that's about how a recent conversation went between a 42-year-old Pennsylvania woman and the 911 dispatcher she called to ask for "emergency assistance" of the marital kind.

Troopers say the woman called just after 1 a.m. Saturday asking that officers be sent to her home in Girard Township in northwestern Pennsylvania. Police say they explained to the woman, whom they are not identifying, that a divorce is a civil matter and no, they could not make her husband leave the residence because no crime had been committed.

But what they could do - and did do - is cite the woman for disorderly conduct and misusing the Erie County 911 system.
