Disney World Grenades: Custodian finds explosives in trash can at Downtown Disney, report says

Three hand grenades were discovered in a trash can in Downtown Disney in Orlando, Fla. on Jan. 2, 2013

(CBS) - Florida authorities said three hand grenades were found near Downtown Disney in Orlando on Wednesday evening, CBS affiliate WKMG reports.

The Orange County Sheriff's Office said the grenades were discovered by a maintenance worker who was emptying trash in the back lot of Downtown Disney. The grenades were placed near the cast services building, which was evacuated as the grenades were safely removed.

The close proximity to the cast services building indicate that a possible case member or worker may have put the grenades there since guests are not allowed onto back lots, according to WKMG.

Disney officials notified the sheriff's office after discovering the grenades, which resulted in the deployment of the OCSO Explosive Ordinance Device Team. Technicians said they determined the three devices to be hollowed out training grenades and did not appear to be dangerous, WKMG reports.
