Dallas area cops shoot double murder suspect dead

Police in the Dallas suburb of DeSoto have shot and killed a Dallas man suspected of murdering two people in Portland, Oregon and critically injuring a third, reports CBS Dallas.

A woman who was involved in an altercation near the scene was also shot, but authorities aren't saying who shot her, the station adds.

Colby Robinson, 26, was spotted Tuesday night in a 7/11 convenience store by a keen clerk who had been shown his picture by police moments before, DeSoto police said.

The clerk said he kept his cool while Robinson was in the store, followed him outside and wrote down the license plate number of the U-Haul he was driving. Another clerk called it in to police.

DeSoto Police found the truck and started chasing Robinson. It ended in the Red Bird area of Dallas, where officers fired at him. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The woman was shot at a nearby Jack in the Box and was taken to the hospital. Her condition is not known.

Portland police say Robinson killed 33-year-old Gary Pham and his sister-in-law, 41-year-old Susie Pham, Friday evening in their home and critically injured 35-year-old Andrew Pham, Susie's husband, reports CBS Portland affiliate KOIN-TV.

Officers found the couple's 13-week-old baby girl unharmed in the home. She has been placed in the care of her grandparents.

Portland detectives have learned that all three victims were involved in the medical marijuana industry, but have not determined if this played a role in the shootings.

KOIN reports family members of the victims issued a statement Tuesday saying in part, "We would like to thank everyone for their sympathy and prayers. We ask that you pray for the third victim of this crime who is still fighting for life. While we are deeply grateful for the kind words we have received, we request that the family members' privacy be respected as we grieve for our loved ones and try to deal with this terrible event. Words cannot express the grief and shock that we feel at such a senseless crime."
