Cornell sophomore charged with fatally shooting CEO dad

PITTSFORD, N.Y. - A Cornell University sophomore has been charged with fatally shooting his father, a CEO, inside the family's New York home.

The Monroe County sheriff's office say deputies responded Monday night to a report of a domestic dispute at a home in Pittsford in suburban Rochester.

When they arrived, deputies say they found 19-year-old Charles Tan and his mother, Qing Tan, standing in the driveway. Inside, they found the body of 49-year-old Ling Tan, president and CEO of Dynamax Imaging in Canandaigua.

Police say the father had been shot with a shotgun, which was found in the garage.

Charles Tan was arraigned Tuesday morning on a second-degree murder charge.

He's being held in the county jail without bail. A message left with his lawyer wasn't immediately returned.
