Cops: Woman found slain in driveway, husband confesses

KENDALL, Fla. — Neighbors of a murdered woman and the man suspected of killing her says the married couple had just moved into their home a month ago, reports CBS Miami.

Barbara Diaz, 44, was found stabbed to death in her driveway Friday. Her 53-year-old husband, Rolando Garcia, turned himself to authorities in not long after.

Police said Garcia confessed to killing his wife of 10 years. Garcia said nothing in court on Saturday as he was charged with second-degree murder.

Police have not said if they’ve determined a motive.

In denying Garcia bond in the case, the judge noted that the charge carries a possible penalty of life in prison. Garcia was appointed a public defender, who invoked his client’s right to remain to silent.

Neighbors told the station Garcia didn’t come off as the type of person to commit a grisly crime.

“I thought it was crazy, impossible,” neighbor Tony Gato said. “He didn’t look like the sort of guy who would do something like that.”
