Cops: Dad run over, killed, trying to prevent drunk driving

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Police say a California woman struck and killer her father with a car as he tried to stop her from driving drunk, reports CBS Los Angeles.

Soukvilay Barton, 37, had been drinking and arguing with family members Friday night when authorities say she decided to leave their Riverside home.

Barton got into her car as her father, Bounmy Rajsombath, pleaded with her not to drive while intoxicated, Riverside Police Sgt. Dan Reeves said, according to the station.

Rajsombath, 69, reportedly stood behind his daughter's BMW convertible in a last-ditch effort to stop her from leaving.

It's unclear whether Barton saw her father standing behind the car when she backed out of the driveway, knocking him to the ground, Reeves said. She stopped the car after seeing he was injured, but it was too late, reports the station.

Paramedics responded to the home and found the 69-year-old man laying in the driveway. Rajsombath was later pronounced dead at Riverside Community Hospital, according to Reeves.

Policy say they have arrested Barton on suspicion of DUI and other charges are pending.
