(CBS/WFMY/AP) GREENSBORO, N.C. - Authorities in North Carolina say a woman, bitter over an affair that ended, shot her two sons, her son's girlfriend, a niece and nephew and a former boyfriend before turning the gun on herself as police approached her Sunday morning.

Guilford County Sheriff BJ Barnes said Monday the gunwoman, 36-year-old Mary Ann Holder, is dead, along with her 17-year-old son Robert Smith. Four others remain in critical condition.

Barnes says Holder confronted her boyfriend, Randal Scott Lamb, just before 9 a.m. and shot him in the shoulder. An hour later, deputies found Holder in a vehicle where she shot herself. Police found Holder's 14-year-old son Zachary Smith in the backseat alive with a gunshot wound to the head, reports CBS affiliate WFMY

Investigators at Holder's home then discovered Robert Smith dead of a gunshot wound to the head, as well as 8-year-old Hanna Suttles, 15-year-old Makalya Leigh Woods, and 17-year-old Richard Brian Suttles with shots to the head, reports WFMY.

Barnes said Holder left behind two notes admitting to the shootings and apologizing for her actions.

According to WFMY, Barnes said that Lamb and Holder had once had an affair and that the relationship led to a lawsuit, including allegations of alienation of affection.

Barnes reportedly said that two weapons had been recovered and that it was likely the shootings had been "pre-arranged."
