Colin Lowrey, Nev. man, kills woman while playing with gun, tells cops he "didn't think it was loaded"
(CBS/AP) HENDERSON, Nev. - A 22-year-old man told Henderson police he didn't believe a gun was loaded when he fatally shot a woman at his home.
Colin Lowrey was booked on suspicion of open murder after the 23-year-old woman was killed Tuesday. Prosecutors can decide whether the case should be charged as murder or manslaughter.
CBS Las Vegas reports Lowrey is being held without bail.
Police say Lowrey called 911 about 8:30 a.m. saying he accidentally shot the woman in the head. She was taken to Sunrise Hospital, where she later died of her injuries.
Lowrey says he was playing with a semi-automatic handgun in the house he shared with three other male roommates when he put the gun near the woman's head and pulled the trigger.
Authorities reportedly said the handgun was registered to Lowrey's name.
The woman's name has not yet been released pending information from the coroner's office, according to the station.
