Club For Growth Targets Five Freshmen Dems On Iraq Vote
With the House set to vote later today on controversial legislation to fund the war in Iraq, the conservative Club for Growth will target five freshmen Democrats if they vote to support the bill because it includes $24 billion in additional spending on projects outside the war.
The Club's political action committee will target freshmen Democratic Reps. Nancy Boyda of Kansas, Nick Lampson of Texas, Tim Mahoney of Florida, Harry Mitchell of Arizona and Heath Shuler of North Carolina.
“Many candidates say the right things on the campaign trail, but have little or no intention of following through on their promises once elected,” said Club for Growth President Pat Toomey in a release. “The Club for Growth PAC is targeting these freshmen in the hope that they will live up to their word and put American taxpayers ahead of the Democratic Party leadership.”
For the time being, this is just a warning shot that the Club will notify its members to keep an eye on how these Democrats vote today and does not correspond with a broader campaign, according to a spokesperson for the group.
