Chris Hemsworth looks like a different person

Chris Hemsworth, generally regarded as one of the hottest leading men in Hollywood, is not looking like himself these days.

Maybe it's the wild hair, the scruffy beard or his scratched up face. Or maybe it's the ribs -- Hemsworth has lost weight after restricting his diet to only 500 calories a day for his film "In the Heart of the Sea."

The "Thor" star posted a shocking picture of himself on Instagram, where he certainly looked like a castaway.

He wrote: "Just tried a new diet/training program called 'Lost At Sea'. Wouldn't recommend it.." His fans responded with sad and crying emojis.

In July, Hemsworth opened up to ET about his diet for "In the Heart of the Sea," where he plays first mate Owen Chase, who gets shipwrecked after his vessel is attacked by a whale.

"We have to shoot the really skinny stuff where we drop down to 5, 6, 700 calories a day, a good three or four weeks and it's going to be pretty uncomfortable, but we'll be together in our misery," Hemsworth told ET. "I spend more time thinking about food than anything else at the moment."

Someone go and grab this man a few cans of Chicken of the Sea.
