Chris Christie: "I'm tired of hearing about the minimum wage"

Here's a sound bite that is certain to follow New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie if he runs for president in 2016: "I've gotta tell you the truth: I'm tired of hearing about the minimum wage. I really am," the Republican governor said during a speech at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce's 15th annual Legal Reform Summit Tuesday, according to The Hill..

"I don't think there's a mother or father sitting around a kitchen table tonight in America who are saying, 'you know honey, if our son or daughter could just make a higher minimum wage, my God all our dreams would be realized,'" Christie continued. "Is that what parents aspire to for their children?"

The Democratic National Committee was quick to pick up on the statement, mocking Christie for his words."That's right. The 4th highest paid governor in America - at $175,000 a year - said that," the group wrote in an email.

They noted that in January 2013, Christie vetoed legislation passed by the Democrat-controlled state legislature that would have increased the minimum wage in New Jersey from $7.25 to $8.50 an hour. At the time, Christie argued it would "jeopardize the economic recovery we all seek."

In November, when New Jersey voters elected Christie for a second term, 60 percent also voted to approve a ballot measure to raise the minimum wage to $8.25 an hour.

Democrats have made the minimum wage a key talking point during the midterm election, arguing that Republican opposition to a federal increase shows they are unconcerned about the financial circumstances of average Americans.
