'Chorus Line' Sets An August Broadway Closing Date

Come mid-August, the Broadway revival of "A Chorus Line" will be alive and kicking no more.

The musical about a group of dancers auditioning for a big Broadway musical will close Aug. 17 after a run of 759 performances and 18 previews, producer John Breglio announced Tuesday.

"For the last two years, audiences have been able to rediscover 'A Chorus Line,' but more important, a whole new generation has been introduced to this great American musical," Breglio said.

The revival opened at Broadway's Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre in October 2006, recouping its $8 million cost in less than five months. A touring company currently is playing Los Angeles.

The musical, created and choreographed by Michael Bennett from the real-life stories of chorus dancers, originally opened off-Broadway at the Public Theater on May 21, 1975, before moving to Broadway later that year. It ran for nearly 15 years, closing in 1990 after a run of 6,137 performances.
