Chiropractic clinic employee accused of poisoning doctor

WHITESBORO, N.Y. -- Nearly a year after an upstate New York doctor's death, a 23-year-old woman who worked in her office has been arrested, reports CBS affiliate WSTM.

Soon after 60-year-old Mary Yoder became and ill and died in a hospital on July 22, 2015, a family member contacted authorities and said they believed the death was suspicious. An autopsy was conducted, and the medical examiner determined that Yoder succumbed to toxicity from an anti-inflammatory drug sometimes used to treat gout.

Her death was ruled a homicide in December, and on Monday, 23-year-old Kaitlyn Conley of Sauquoit, New York, was indicted by an Oneida County Grand Jury on multiple charges, including second degree murder and first degree falsifying business records.

Conley had worked at the chiropractic clinic run by Yoder and her husband for four years, according to Robert Maciol, the Oneida County Sheriff.

Officials have not said if they determined a motive for the alleged murder.

Court documents suggest that Conley obtained the toxin Colchicine more than six months before Yoder died. The indictment alleges she used a falsified Letter of Intent and a W-9 tax form in order to purchase the chemical, which is not widely sold.
