Children awake to find parents dead in Tenn. murder-suicide
(CBS/AP) SMYRNA, Tenn.- Two young children awoke to find their parents dead in their central Tennessee home on Saturday morning, CBS Charlotte reports.
Smyrna Police Chief Kevin Arnold said in a statement that an 8-year-old boy went to a neighbor's home and told them that his parents were dead.
Officers soon determined that Adytia Ramotar killed Sharon Forbes before turning the gun on himself. The 37-year-old and the 34-year-old, natives of Guyana, were divorced but reportedly attempting to work things out.
Three children were at the home at the time of the shooting but were not harmed. The 8-year-old and the 6-year-old were the couple's children and the 2-year-old was a nephew. The children have been handed over to family members, Arnold said.
"Our investigation so far reveals the children did not witness the violent act in the home," Arnold told reporters.
