Chase of Miami Robbery Suspects Ends with Crash

A multi-county chase ended on Interstate 95 when two armed robbery suspects in a blue Ford Expedition crashed into the rear end of a tanker truck, reports CBS station WFOR in Miami.

The chase started in Miami at 4025 NW 4 Terrace after an officer on a motorcycle came across a strong armed robbery. Police followed the suspect through the streets of Miami before heading onto I-95.

The crash happened on the exit ramp from northbound I-95 to Hallandale Beach Blvd. in Broward County.

The Ford Expedition crashed into the rear-end of the tanker truck and was left with the front-end completely crushed. The Indian River Transport company said the tanker was empty at the time of the crash. The Hallandale Beach Blvd. exit is closed as due to the accident.

After the crash, one suspect crawled out of the car and fell to the ground. The suspect was immediately taken into custody by Miami police at gunpoint.

After being initially placed into the back of a city of Miami police cruiser; he was eventually placed in a neck brace and tended to by emergency services personnel at the scene of the crash. He was taken from the scene by ambulance due to his injuries.

The driver of the truck, 54-year-old Mathew Armstrong of Orlando, was placed on a backboard and taken from the scene by ambulance.

The truck is owned by Indian River Transport, a privately owned food grade tank carrier that provides transportation services throughout the United States. Indian River Transport is based in Winter Haven, Florida.
