Camera Catches Prosecutor Naked

The attorney for a Hamilton, Ohio, prosecutor charged with public indecency blames his behavior on mental illness.

Scott Blauvelt, 35, who was charged with two counts of public indecency after allegedly being seen on security cameras walking around naked, was seriously injured in a 2005 car accident. He also suffers from bipolar disorder and is on medication for seizures, said his attorney, Michael Gmoser.

"Scott Blauvelt is an American with a disability," he said during a preliminary hearing

City officials will decide whether to discipline him for violating rules of conduct. He's on paid administrative leave from a job that pays $70,000 a year.

Hamilton Law Director Hillary Stevenson said Tuesday she was not able to talk about issues related to Blauvelt's mental health.

Blauvelt was arrested Monday. A guard monitoring a security camera spotted a naked man investigators identified as Blauvelt in a building that houses county offices the night of Oct. 5, sheriff's Maj. Anthony Dwyer said. The night before, security video had captured Blauvelt naked in another area of the building, where city offices are located, he said.

The indecency charge carries a sentence of up to a month in jail and $250 fine.

Blauvelt had been treated for mental illness before the car accident, and had recently resumed taking anti-seizure medication, Gmoser said. He said Blauvelt's wife recently miscarried, adding to his stress.
