Calif. mom accused of drowning 12-year-old son in bathtub

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- A woman is accused of murdering her 12-year-old adopted son by drowning him in the bathtub at their home earlier this month, reports CBS San Francisco.

According to the Santa Clara District Attorney's office, 51-year-old Tara McNeill Palajac confessed to drowning her son after she initially told police he had drowned by accident.

On Jan. 8, police and paramedics were called to the family's home after Palajac reported finding her son unconscious in the water, according to the station. The boy reportedly could not be revived and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The district attorney's office told CBS San Francisco that after further interrogation by police, she confessed to killing her son.

She was later arrested and booked into the Santa Clara County Jail, according to the station.

Palajac is reportedly scheduled to appear in court earlier next month.
