Caitlyn Jenner to receive Arthur Ashe Courage Award at 2015 ESPYs
Caitlyn Jenner will receive the Arthur Ashe Courage Award at the ESPYs this July, ESPN announced Monday.
The award is given each year to individuals "whose contributions transcend sports." Past recipients have included Michael Sam, Robin Roberts and women's basketball coach Pat Summitt.
"In the past few months, the overwhelming outpouring of support from all over the world for my journey has been incredible," Jenner, 65, said in a statement. "However, being honored with this award, which is named after one of my heroes, is truly special. For the first time this July, I will be able to stand as my true self in front of my peers."
The announcement came after the former Olympian, who came out as transgender this past April in an interview with Diane Sawyer, revealed her female name and identity on the cover of Vanity Fair.
"I'm not doing this to be interesting. I'm doing this to live," she said in the magazine's July issue.
Jenner's 10 children and stepchildren are expected to join her on stage when she receives the honor, according to TMZ.
The 2015 ESPYs, hosted by Joel McHale, will air live on ABC on July 15 at 8 p.m. ET from Nokia Theatre L.A. LIVE in Los Angeles.
