Body found in search for American man missing in London

A body has been found in the search for a 24-year-old American man who went missing in a suburb of London on Oct. 22, according to the London Metropolitan Police Service.

British Transport Police informed detectives on Thursday that a body was found by the train tracks between Feltham and Staines stations, near where Josh Sanchez-Maldonado was last seen.

Sanchez-Maldonado, who had been living in San Francisco, arrived in the UK on a flight from Japan on Oct. 21. It was the first time he had left the country on his own, according to statements made by family members and publicized by police during the search.

He was last seen leaving St. Giles Hotel in Feltham wearing a dark colored flat cap, a T-shirt, white shorts and black sneakers on Oct. 22, the day he was due to fly back to San Francisco from London's Heathrow Airport.

He never got on his flight.

Sanchez-Maldonado's family members traveled to the United Kingdom to appeal for assistance in the search for him and have been informed of the development, according to police. The body, however, has not yet been identified and the cause of death is still unknown.
